Rescued from 1999

Three things I wrote as a student, recovered from server backups and made to run in a browser that has forgotten Flash, Java applets and framesets. Each one carries its own teardown of what the original code got wrong.

• CJMAP — map of Cluj

  A 1999 interactive map of Cluj-Napoca, Flash 4 driven by a Java applet. Read back out of the original binaries and rebuilt as SVG.

• JSMS — JavaScript MineSweeper

  Minesweeper for Netscape 4: no DOM, no innerHTML, no right-click. Every cell was two images. Now playable under either the 1999 rules or today's.

• sgTANKS

  A two-player Java tank game, 1999–2001. Decompiled from the 2001 bytecode, recompiled, and running in WebAssembly — lands, editor, replays and all.

• Transindex — the CMS and portal server behind Transylvania's Hungarian-language news site. It stopped publishing on 15 February 2022 and now sits frozen at the Adatbank archive, front page still dated the day before.
• Printr and Cabron Connector — an inspector/debug panel and a PHP remoting bridge, both for Flash MX, both on SourceForge since 2003. I named the second one without knowing what the word carries in Spanish.
